Ooma (not to be confused with Uma)

We've been using some sort of VOIP (voice over IP) telephone service for several years now. We used Vonage first and switched to Sunrocket because it was cheaper. We liked Sunrocket, but their great prices sorta ended up bankrupting them. Shoot. So, we went back with Vonage for the second time. Which wasn't a big deal, but bugs me a bit because they keep raising their prices bit by bit. We paid $10 a month not long ago, then it was $15, now it's up to $26.

Recently I read about Ooma, and now we're leaving Vonage for the second time.

Basically, Ooma is a VOIP phone system but their business model is a bit different. You buy the phone router majiggy for a couple hundred bucks and then there's no monthly fee after that unless you want to subscribe to the premium service. Free is good. And the premium service doesn't really have anything I need (second phone line) or want other than the features that are free through Google Voice (which I luckily got an account for).

I bought our Ooma when it was on sale on Amazon and had a promotion for a free iPod. Anybody wanna buy an iPod, by the way.

If you have high speed internet, I recommend saving some money on phone service. And if they have some sort of referral bonus thing, I'll have to figure out how to cash in on that too. ;-)
